Wow... where did February go??? This is the last theme
week entitled: RELATIONSHIPS MADE POSITIVE.
"To carry each
other is not a burden at
all but a kind of privilege"
For the past two weeks I have witnessed the struggle,
frustration and total exasperation between family members wanting
to help a NEWLY injured relative reluctant to be cared for.
This has been a theme I have heard more than once and
one which keeps rearing its head. Phrases like, "Don't want to
be a burden", "I don't want
any help" and "I can do it myself" come
Why is it we're eager to help others, but not ask for
what we need? To answer that question, let's take a good look in
the mirror. Who's staring back at you?
Ask yourself, "What is it about asking for help
that's holding ME back?"
Which resonated with you?
obligated to help them in return.
have the time.
want to be a burden.
- I'm not
worthy of the care.
want to come across that I can't handle x, y, z....
want to be perceived as "failing".
want people to know how bad it is.
- Won't be
done the way I want it to be done, have to redo it.
If we don't ask, no one will know we need help; we are
not mind readers. What's one area in your life you want extra help
with? Physical assistance, childcare, laundry, work load, chores,
housework...the list could be endless. Here is the secret! You have
a CHOICE!!!! And it's all yours! You can choose to be stressed,
overwhelmed and ride the rollercoaster or you can choose to ask.
But you have to be willing to let go of expectation and perfection.
Someone may not set the table, do the dishes, clean the house
exactly as you wish, but here's the point...IS THE TASK GETTING
DONE? OR is your health getting better because of the care of
others? Answer: YES, yes, yes!!!
Remember, as you want to help others, so they want to
help you! Everyone wants to feel needed. So take the risk and ask.
Smile and say thank you; you might be pleasantly surprised.
"The most important
thing in life is to learn how
to give out love, and to let
it come in."
