I learned early on "to keep your
word"; when a man's (generically speaking) handshake was his word
it spoke volumes about his integrity. My parents, especially my
Dad, lived by this rule. One story: The "old friend" who
bought our childhood home in 1980 promised never to sell off the
acreage after he purchased it. It was cemented in their handshake,
or so Dad believed. I will never forget the stunned, head down
disbelief look on Dad's face when he learned all the property was
being developed. I don't remember if he got a prior call from the
"old friend", but he could have. Dad's trust imploded.
Generations change and so do their actions on
accountability and responsibility. We live in a litigious society
where words can be read and misinterpreted, where people can
declare bankruptcy and not be accountable for their actions. They
can put out a new "shingle" the next day and do business
My question to you is does your word matter?
If you tell your children, friend or spouse you will do x, y, z and
don't follow-through, ignore your promise and blown it off; what
have you modeled? How about if they are misbehaving and you told
them if they did not stop they would be punished? Did you keep your
word or was it rhetoric? Can your children depend on your word, or
your spouse, employer, neighbors or others? Can people depend on
you to keep it?
So do your words hold integrity? Are you
accountable for your actions; if not why and how can you make a
Remember it's not your legacy or wealth that
people will remember, it is your CHARACTER.

MASTER THE TRANSITION OF A LIFETIME

The Six SECRETS To A Happy
Retirement, How To Master the Transition of a Lifetime
5.0 out of 5 stars Finally a comprehensive work on living well
in retirement, March
Too many books about
retirement are "nuts & bolts" -- lots of data. Yes,
that's helpful, but I've never seen a book that takes into account
the qualitative issues the way "The Six Secrets to a Happy
Retirement" does. This book offers whole new ways of thinking
about retirement -- and that's sorely needed. Love it!
5.0 out of 5 stars - Excellent retirement resource! March 28, 2013
I have been in the financial business, and working in
retirement for many years and have always thought there was a lack
of good information to really prepare someone for retirement. It's
not just about saving enough, it's about trying to live WELL in
retirement. Mark has compiled information from a number of experts
to help you do just that. I thought I knew a lot, but I couldn't
believe the new information I learned going through this book. If
you want your retirement to be a happy one, no matter what your
age, this book is for you.

clutter wasn't just the books on my floor, but the books in my head
- a general book stoppage! [Sallie's] ideas on organization, and
particularly on taking things one very small piece at a time, have
been helpful daily." -Deborah A
